Creates and utilizes lesson plans to teach group and individual swim classes in accordance with the organization’s instructional swimming programs. The Swim Lesson Instructor assesses students’ progress and abilities and completes all required paperwork.

• Minimum of fifteen (15) years of age.
• Previous experience working with children and familiarity with Byron Park District swim lesson program preferred.

• Instruct children and/or adults various swimming and safety skills using positive corrective feedback techniques, demonstrations and practice drills.
• Be prepared to teach class by creating lesson plans and gathering equipment prior to class.
• Complete appropriate forms and reports on participants’ skill progress.
• Provide a high quality of customer service in a professional manner and communicate regularly with participants and their parents/guardians.
• Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations.
• Follow all Byron Park District policies, procedures and guidelines.
• Maintain good safety awareness and follow all safety guidelines and procedures.
• Wear appropriate Byron Park District attire.
• Complete required instructor training and attend in-service trainings and staff meetings.
• Assist others with the general clean-up of the aquatic facility.
• Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

This position must be able to remain in chlorinated water for extended periods of time. This position must be able to frequently lift participants weighing up to 30 lbs. This position will be required to occasionally move about the pool deck and office, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, bend, twist, climb, and reach. This position should be physically fit and have the endurance to help participants.

This position must be able to be exposed to pool chemicals and indoor swimming pool conditions, including high humidity and varying degrees of temperature and light. The noise level of the environment is moderate to loud.

This position must also be able to work in a stressful environment due to the responsibility for the safety of patrons and the possibility of working with special needs individuals while remaining in control of the class and resolving problems with participants. This position must be able to follow and give directions. This position must have strong problem solving skills, be flexible and have good verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
